Maquina Filmes

Heloisa Passos, director, producer and award-winning cinematographer created MAQUINA Films with Tina Hardy, editor and producer. Its goal is to contribute to contemporary cultural production with creativity and responsibility. Over the years the short-films produced by MAQUINA have received several awards and participated the festival around the world like: New York Film Festival, Uppsala International Short Film Festival, É Tudo Verdade – International Documentary Film Festival, São Paulo International Film Festival, Festival Internacional de Cine Documental y Cortometraje de Bilbao, Festival de Cine Latino-Americano de Havana, Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara. CAMINHOS (On the move), a co-production between MAQUINA and SESCTV, has received the TAL Awards at DocMontevideo 2013. MAQUINA is the only Brazilian company with two short-films in the platform The Intercept / Field of Vision. CONSTRUINDO PONTES (Building Bridges) received the IDFA award for most promising project pitched at DocMontevideo 2016.

HELOISA PASSOS

Heloisa Passos, director, producer, an award winning cinematographer and member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, is one of the founders of Maquina Films.
She is credited on the 2015 Academy-Award winning film Citizen Four by Laura Poitras and she was the co-director photographer in Waste Land by Lucy Walker. She garnered the Excellence in Cinematography award at Sundance F.Festival for Manda Bala by Jason Kohn. She garnered two times best Director of Photography at Rio de Janeiro I.F.Festival with Marcelo Gomes and Karim Aïnouz’s film, 2009 and with Cristiane Oliveira’s film, 2016.
Her work as both cinematographer and director of short documentaries has been featured on Field of Vision / The Intercept. She has also directed a number of short films, which have been screened around the world. “Building Bridges” is her first doc feature film as director. This film received the IDFA award for most promising project pitched at DocMontevideo 2016.

TINA HARDY

Tina Hardy is part of the creative team at Maquina Films since 2003. She has been collaborating as producer, director and editor. At Maquina she produced, among others, “Caminhos”, best Latin American TV series by TAL Awards, at DOCMontevideo in 2013.
She also works as a freelancer moving image editor. In 2016 edited a Fox TV series called “Me chama de Bruna” directed by Márcia Faria (“Station” – Palme d'Or nominated for Best Short Film). Tina is also one of the editors at “Família é Família”, a TV series directed by João Jardim (co-director in “Waste Land” – Oscar nominated for Best Documentary, Features).
Right now, Tina is producing and editing “Building Bridges”, first feature produced by Maquina Films.
