IDFA Award at DocMontevideo
07/02/2017
At the award ceremony of the Documentary Pitching sessions at DocMontevideo, the IDFA Award for most promising project was given to Building Bridges by Heloisa Passos. A special mention went to Constructions by Fernando Restelli.
Docmontevideo’s Documentary Pitching sessions are a training path for twelve participants with projects from Latin America. At last Friday’s award ceremony, the IDFA Award and Special Mention were among nine prizes given out.
The winning project was the Brazilian film Building Bridges, a personal reflection by director Heloisa Passos on the building of the country’s largest hydroelectric power plant, Itaipu, during the reign of the military dictatorship. As part of the award, the director and producer will be invited to IDFA in November and attend the IDFA Forum.
A special mention was given to Constructions by Argentinian director Fernando Restelli. Composed as the photo album of an unconventional family in the Mataderos neighborhood of La Calera, Córdoba, the film offers an intimate approach to the everyday lives of the workers who built the city. As part of the award, the filmmakers will receive full access to the IDFAcademy program during IDFA 2016.
Similar awards were already given out earlier this year at DocEdge Kolkata’s Asian documentary film forum, the East Doc Platform of the Institute of Documentary Film in Prague and the Durban FilmMart. More awards are to come at the Docu Rough Cut Boutique in Sarajevo and CCDF –CNEX in Taipei.
